Differences between a Daydreamer and an Achiever

It’s one of these mornings and I am trying to get this report out to CEO before 9:00 am. My coworker stopped in front of the door and didn’t look too happy as he walked into my office. Jake was a talented, smart employee in the accounting department who had been there for 6 years. “Let me guess, you are having a bad day, what happened?” “Well, I just had an argument with Mike (his boss); he wants me to wrap up everything and finish this project by the end of this week. I am going to have to work like a dog. They are not paying me well, workload is too heavy and on top of that I am getting these e-mails from him when I show up 5 mins late. I hate this place.” “Have you been looking around for another job?” “I am afraid to quit (what’s to be afraid?), I [...]

Are You Being Taken For Granted?

By Vivek Ray We are all taken for granted once in a while. And sometimes we don’t even mind it, if it is done by someone whom we love and is really close to us. But if it is a regular thing that keeps on repeating itself, it surly hurts and irritates. This world is full of people who are complaining about been taken for granted by their bosses, colleagues, spouse, friends, brother and sisters and even by their own children. They hate it, but never really are able to change it. If observed carefully, one can easily see that these people are nice and decent; In fact at times too nice and decent. They are soft spoken, willing to please, helpful, sincere and hardworking. In general other people like them and even praise them, behind their back. But they somehow never manage to get the type of recognition and [...]

Need a JOB? Hire Your Self!

By Cassie Findley The Federal Reserve Chairman, Ben Bernanke said “the record levels of long-term unemployment will alter the U.S.  job market for the worse for the foreseeable future.” Unfortunately, this statement fuels the hopelessness felt by many of us. The unemployment rate was reported at 8.3% in January 2012. In addition, more than 40% of those currently unemployed have been without work for more than 6 months. This adds up to 5.5 million Americans who have been out of work for 6 months or more, not to mention the three to five million more people who have dropped out of the labor force because they have given up. Everyone should have the opportunity to work and provide food, water and shelter for themselves and their families. So, what is the solution to bring back jobs and prosperity to the everyday worker? Let’s start with the traditional job search questions, [...]

Tips for Staying Motivated and Living Your Dream

By Loral Lee Portenier I recently was reading an article by Dr. Robert Anthony about this very issue. The way he put it was that the tide can’t come in unless we’ve first allowed it to go out. Our dreams cannot manifest unless we release them. In other words, we must learn to trust the process in order to live our dreams. But what, exactly, does that look like? Maybe it’s different for everyone. For me, it means deciding what I want based upon my personal values, then putting that dream out to the Universe. After that, I take inspired action, meaning, I request wisdom and divine guidance, then follow the path that slowly, step-by-step reveals itself to me. It also means that when I cannot see the How, When, Where answers, I choose to trust the process. But how does one stay motivated during this process? When there seems [...]

How to Be a Successful Victim – 12 Important Rules of the Game

Life is not a level playing field. Some people, through no fault of their own, have bad luck and misfortune at every turn. They are Victims! I used to be an Expert Victim, but couldn’t hold a candle to my mother, who was the Queen. However, I have grown lax. Or maybe it’s rebellious. I no longer play by these rules. Fortunately, I still recall enough of the Rules of the Game to share with those of you who may want to become Expert Victims in your own right. Some of you may be familiar with these rules, so this might be a refresher course for you. Others will want to really study, memorize, and practice these rules. 1. Play the Blame Game. What happens to you is your parents’ fault. Your partner’s fault. God’s fault. You’re totally innocent and helpless, like a newborn infant. 2. Be lazy. Sit on [...]

Sorry – We’re Out of Beef

Something that is simply amazing is how some businesses actually stay in business. Hopefully this doesn’t single anyone out. And if it does… pay close attention… you will want to get it fixed. There is a story of a couple of guys that took a trip down the interstate to pick up some go-carts and a gyro for a church youth group. And first off… these guys were financially capable of taking the time to take a day off whenever they wanted. And it’s more than the day off… it’s being able to give that time. So as they were on there travels back they stopped at Taco John’s to grab a bite to eat. It was just off the interstate and they had some limited choices due to the trailer size they were pulling. It should have been a red flag as they walked in and stood in front [...]

How to Give a Killer Presentation

You have the power to change the world. With an IDEA. But it’s powerless unless you pull it out. And you can change people’s visions, perspectives and change the world if you communicate your IDEA effectively. If you are like most people, then public speaking or presenting is one of your major fears. So, to harness your nervousness and bring it under control, there are four key tips to remember. These tips are all designed to help you to break the vicious cycle: 1) Know Your Audience. You need to know your audience so you can customize your presentation accordingly.Who is your audience, what is their relationship to topic, what is their expectation from your speech, how can the audience benefit from your speech and are they likely to be argumentative, warm or disinterested . Once you know the answers, you can understand and connect better. 2 ) Mental Game. Our [...]

i hate my job

I Hate My Job – Now What?

I felt so trapped. My first job, I had a cubicle with fluorescent lights. I had the girl in the cubicle next to mine who would cough every thirty seconds eight hours a day. I had a jerk off boss. The occasional wanting to punch him in his stupid face never stopped popping up in my mind. I hated my coworkers. I hated acting like I cared when revenues were down when I really didn’t. Only time I enjoyed office was when my office fling was around. In the morning I couldn’t get out of bed. Light would shine in. 6:30am. 6:35am. 6:40am. 7:00 am hit the snooze button at least 5 times before I get out of bed. Finally, I’d decide to get up. Each morning is the same routine. Stuck in traffic. I am late to work everyday. I felt TRAPPED. Many of you feel the same way. You [...]

Advance Your Career : Learn New Skills, Start with This One!

Few years ago I started my first job at a manufacturing plant repairing jet engines. You can probably guess what happened since it has been happening all over the world, my company trying to cut costs and told me I was laid off along with 50 some employees. I spent couple months searching for another job, but it seemed like every job I applied to was only willing to pay minimum wage with no benefits. Luckily, I got an offer from this company as Administrative Assistant that required someone with intermediate Excel skills.I thought I had pretty good Excel skills until about a year ago at my office, we had an intern start here, who had an experience and fancy talent for designing Excel spreadsheets quickly, by using the shortcut keys, with detail and accuracy, and at an advanced level. She was quickly promoted into a higher position that required Advanced Excel skills [...]
